The German Society for Garden Design and Cultural Landscapes (GSGDCL) is committed to supporting, in a variety of ways, the preservation and revival of the culture of gardens and landscapes. Its main areas of interest are:

  • Nature and landscapes
  • Historical gardens, parks and cultural landscapes
  • Contemporary landscape architecture
  • Private and public spaces in populated areas
  • Gardens als symbols
The DGGL was founded in 1887. It functions today as a nationwide-organised charitable society with 17 autonomous federal state associations.
It has more than 2000 members. Further active fellow-campaigners are welcome.
Its main areas of activity are:
  • Lectures and discussions
  • Seminars and conferences
  • Excursions and garden trips
  • Annual award of a DGGL-Culture Prize
  • Public statements and campaigns
  • Competitions for young landscape architects
  • Publications
  • Shareholder in /Part-owner of the “Bücherei des Deutschen Gartenbaues” (Library of German Horticulture)
  • Editor of the journal “Garten+Landschaft”
